As a CEO with over 25 years of experience, I’ve seen firsthand the power of people to drive innovation and business success.

Yet, in an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is automating tasks and transforming industries, it’s easy to forget that the human element remains the most critical factor.

Yes – AI can enhance efficiency, but it cannot replace the art of leadership – the uniquely human ability to inspire, connect, and empower. While effective strategies and tactics are important, the foundation of exceptional leadership lies in your mindset and attitude.

After decades of working with top sales organizations, I have identified ten essential “Be’s of Leadership” attitudes that I believe can transform your leadership and drive extraordinary results:

  1. Be Bold: Don’t shy away from challenges. Take calculated risks, embrace innovation, and lead your team with courage and conviction.
  2. Be Positive Energy: Enthusiasm is contagious. Your positive energy will uplift your team, boost morale, and create a more productive and enjoyable work environment.
  3. Be Positive Attitude: A can-do attitude inspires resilience and problem-solving. Encourage optimism and focus on solutions, not just problems.
  4. Be Why/Not How: Give your team the “why” behind the goals, not just the “how-to.” When they understand the purpose, they’ll be more motivated and resourceful.
  5. Be Passionate About Your Team: Show genuine interest in your team’s growth and development. Invest in their success, and they’ll invest in yours.
  6. Be Asking for Input: Create a culture of collaboration and open communication. Value your team’s ideas and make them feel heard.

I encourage you to check out this TED Talk by Karin Hurt. According to her research, 40% of people lack the confidence to share their ideas and have what she calls FOSU (fear of speaking up).

As leaders, we must create a culture of open communication where our teams feel empowered to share ideas and provide input. By promoting clarity and proactively seeking diverse perspectives, we fuel innovation, enhance problem-solving, and drive our organizations forward.

  1. Be Timely in Decisions: Avoid analysis paralysis. Make informed decisions promptly, providing your team with clear direction and confidence.
  2. Be Involved and Engaged: Be present and accessible. Show your team you care about their work and are invested in their success.
  3. Be Giving a Damn About Them: Show genuine care for your team members as individuals. Support their well-being, celebrate their wins, and help them navigate challenges.
  4. Be Culture and Mental Well-Being of Your Team: Cultivate a positive, supportive culture prioritizing mental health and well-being. A happy, healthy team is a productive team.

Why These Attitudes Matter

Each of these “Be” attitudes serves as a building block for a thriving sales culture. Boldness inspires innovation, positivity boosts morale, and a focus on the “why” fuels motivation. By genuinely caring about your team and valuing their input, you create a collaborative environment where everyone feels empowered to contribute their best.
